Quote of the Month

"To accomplish great things, we must dream
as well as act."

~
Anatole France

Recipe of the month

~Spaghetti Squash with fresh sauteed Cherry Tomatoes ~

1 Spaghetti Squash
1/4 Red Onion, Chopped
4 Cloves of Garlic, minced
1 TBSP Olive Oil
Fresh Basil and Parsley
Fresh grated Parmesean
Salt & Pepper to taste

1. Pre-heat oven to 350. Wash spaghetti squash, poke with a knife a few times and put on a baking sheet. Place in oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes turn squash over and cook an additional 30 minutes.

2. After squash cooks for an hour total take it out of the oven and let cool slightly. When cool enough to handle, cut squash in half lengthwise. It will look like spaghetti strands inside. With a fork pull out spaghetti squash.

3.
In a medium saute pan heat oil at medium heat. Add onion, garlic and tomatoes. Cook 3-5 minutes adding small amounts of water or broth if additional liquid is needed.

4. Add salt, pepper, parmesean to taste and sprinkle with fresh basil and parsley.

~ ENJOY ~

Exercise of the month:

Pilates Roll Down

Benefits:

  • Strengthens the abdominals.
  • Trains the body to hold strong posture while bending the spine.

How to do this exercise:

(Always be sure to check with your Dr before performing this or any other new exercise especially if you have heart problems, high or low blood pressure, neck problems or are pregnant)

1. Sit on the floor with the feet hips width apart. Zip the abs, open the chest, keep the scapulae neutral and keep as much space between the shoulders and ears and you can.

2. Round the spine while lifting from your abs and reach the arms forward while keeping good posture (see step 1 above). Don't let the heels lift off the floor at all during this whole exercise. If they do, you've gone too far, don't go so far on the next rep.

3. Roll down for a count of four as you inhale. Exhale and Roll up engaging your abs even more and keeping those heels down to the floor.

4. Continue this for 10 - 20 reps, keeping perfect form the whole time.

Things that I Love and Recommend:

CD ~ Michael Buble'

It's Time

A great follow up to his debut CD, especially track #1

Something to Think About:

Weight loss occurs when Calories in is less than Calories out

Are you working out and wondering why you are not losing weight. Take a closer look at your diet. You may be sabotaging your workout efforts. A bite here and there add up, make sure you are accounting for all the calories that you consume. And make sure that your workouts are strenuous enough that you are burning the calories needed to lose weight.
