Recipe of the month

Turkey Soup with Matzo Balls

1 large plate full of turkey bones and meat

Cheese Cloth

2 cups carrots, peeled and sliced

2 cups celery, chopped

1 onion, diced

4 garlic cloves, chopped

2 quarts of water

1 tbsp Olive Oil

Matzo Meal

1 egg

Smart Balance Buttery Spread

Salt & Pepper to taste

 

(If you don't have cheesecloth skip step #1 - you can put the bones in the soup and take them out when soup is cooked)

  1. Place turkey bones only (meat all cut off) in cheesecloth and tie ends together. Set aside meat to add to pot soon.
  2. Place Olive oil and onions in a large stock pan over medium heat. Cook 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add celery and carrots and cook 5 minutes more, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add plate of turkey bones and meat. Add water. Cover and bring to a boil.
  5. When this comes to a boil lower heat to a simmer and put cover on pot only halfway. Cook 1 - 3 hours. (turkey is cooked so you are just cooking soup to bring flavors together and make broth)
  6. While soup is cooking make Matzo Balls from recipe on the Matzo Meal box. This is a simple recipe that turns out great. Make sure to use Smart Balance when making Matzo Balls.

Exercise of the month

Reverse Triangle

 

Benefits:

  • Strengthens and Stretches the Spinal Rotators, abdominals and shoulder stabilizers.

  • Encourages Balance

  •   Stretches the abductors and   quadratus lumborum.

How to do this exercise:

(Always be sure to check with your Dr before performing this or any other new exercise especially if you have heart problems, high or low blood pressure, back or neck problems or are pregnant)

  1. Stand in Triangle Pose (Click here to see Triangle Pose in Volume # 1).

  2. Inhale, rotate at your waist and reach your left hand anywhere it lands on your right leg. Keep abs lifted, shoulders stabile and both arms and legs straight. Hold and breath slow deep breaths for up to 1 minute. Repeat opposite side.
